The short answer: flowers and chocolates work because one is for looking at and the other is for sharing, and together they feel more generous than either alone. Choose the flowers for the occasion first, then add a box of chocolates that suits how many people will share it. This guide covers what we can put together, which pairings suit which occasions, and a few things to check before you order.
The chocolates we offer
You have two routes: a box added to a flower order, or a gourmet gift basket built around chocolate.
- The Belgian Chocolate Box holds 20 classic Belgian chocolates and is hand delivered by our florist. It is made to be added to a bouquet or arrangement, and it arrives together with your flowers.
- The Maitre Truffout Gold Box has 18 pralines with smooth chocolate and filled centres, in a gold box.
- The Mieszko Sweet Secret box is a smaller assortment, with hazelnut, cream, praline and chocolate with orange. It is an easy small add-on.
- Bank of Chocolate and The Chocolate Times are large baskets for a true chocolate lover, with names such as Godiva and Lindt.
If you would like a little more, the Adorable Stuffed Bear is a soft, simple extra that goes with almost any order. See the boxes alongside our other extras in special add-ons, and the larger baskets in gourmet gift baskets.
Pairings by occasion
Romance and anniversaries
This is the classic pairing. A dozen roses with the Belgian Chocolate Box is hard to get wrong, and One Dozen Premium Red Roses is a traditional way to say I love you. If red feels too formal for your relationship, our pink flowers are softer, and our guide to what rose colours mean goes through the options. For a longer marriage, our guide to anniversary flowers by year has more ideas.
Birthdays
A bright bouquet from our birthday flowers with a box of chocolates feels like a full gift, especially when you cannot be there in person. If the person celebrating has a family or roommates, choose a box large enough to share. A plush bear also goes over well for a younger person, and the Bear with Chocolates pairs a soft bear with a box of Belgian chocolates. Send it on its own, or along with a bouquet to make the gift feel bigger.
Thank you and teachers
A small bouquet with a small box of chocolates is a thoughtful way to say thank you without going overboard. Try our flowers and gifts under $60 and add the Mieszko box. Our guides to thank you flowers and flowers for a teacher or coworker have wording ideas for the card.
The office and clients
Chocolate travels well around an office, so it is a fair choice when you are sending to a team rather than one person. A gourmet basket usually makes more sense than a single box here, since everyone can take something. Read our guide to holiday gifts for clients and staff.
Get well and new babies
Flowers and chocolates can suit someone recovering at home, but check first if the person is on a special diet. For a hospital delivery, ask the family whether flowers and food are allowed on the unit. New parents often appreciate a treat they can eat one-handed, and our new baby collection has flowers and baskets for the occasion.
A few things to check
- Allergies. Chocolates can contain nuts and dairy, so check with someone who knows the person if you are not sure, and read the product page. The product pages for our gourmet baskets list what is inside.
- The weather. Chocolate does not love the heat. If you are sending during a hot spell, tell the recipient so the box goes inside soon after it arrives.
- The delivery day. Gift baskets are made to order and need at least one day's notice, so plan ahead if you would like a gourmet basket rather than a box. We offer same-day delivery of fresh flowers, so call us at 905-677-9999 if you are not sure what can go out together today.
- The card. Every order includes a free handwritten card. A line that mentions the chocolates, such as "Don't share these unless you want to", adds a bit of fun.
Keeping both at their best
Store chocolates somewhere cool, away from direct sun. Bouquets want much the same: fresh water and a spot out of direct sun. Our guide on how to keep a bouquet fresh longer explains how to trim and water them.
Ordering and delivery
Every bouquet is hand-arranged in our Mississauga studio. Delivery is free on orders of $50 or more, and orders under $50 have a $15 delivery fee. See our best sellers for ideas, or call us at 905-677-9999 and we will help you put something together.
