What to include with your order

  • the patient's full name, as the hospital has it on record
  • Joseph Brant Hospital, 1245 Lakeshore Road, Burlington
  • the unit or floor and the room number, if you know them
  • a phone number we can reach you at, in case we need to check a detail
  • your card message, signed so the patient knows who it is from

Before you send: check with the unit

Hospital rules on flowers change from unit to unit and over time. Some units, such as intensive care and some cancer or transplant units, may not allow fresh flowers or plants at all. Before you order, it is a good idea to check with the patient's family or call the hospital to ask whether the patient's unit accepts flowers. If it does not, a bouquet sent to the patient's home for when they return can be a lovely welcome back.

What to send to a hospital room

Hospital rooms are often small and shared, so a compact arrangement that fits on a bedside table or a windowsill is easiest for nurses and visitors. Choose a design that comes in its own vase or basket, so no one has to find a container. Lightly scented flowers are kinder in a shared room than strongly fragrant lilies. A cheerful mix of colours, or the patient's favourite flower, is always welcome.
