The short answer: one or two warm sentences are all you need. Say who it is for, wish them well, and sign your name so they know who sent it. A short message that sounds like you means more than a long verse copied from somewhere else. Below are messages you can use as they are, or change to suit the person.
When you order from Mystic Flowers, every order includes a free handwritten card, so your words arrive written by hand with the flowers. Because a card that travels with a bouquet is small, the messages here are short on purpose.
A simple way to write any Christmas card
- Start with their name. "Dear Anna" feels warmer than no greeting at all.
- Add one real thought. A wish, a thank you or a small memory from the year.
- Close warmly. "With love", "Warmly" or "Merry Christmas" all work.
- Sign clearly. Use your full name if they might know more than one person with your first name, and include the whole family if the gift is from everyone.
Messages for family
- Merry Christmas to the best family anyone could ask for. Love you all.
- So grateful for you this year and every year. Merry Christmas, with all our love.
- Wishing you a house full of laughter, good food and everyone you love.
- Thank you for making Christmas feel like home.
Messages for parents and grandparents
A line about what they have done for you will mean more than any general wish.
- Mom, every Christmas memory I love has you in it. Thank you for all of them.
- Merry Christmas, Dad. Thank you for everything you do for us.
- Grandma, you make the holidays what they are. We love you so much.
- To the best grandparents in the world, from all of your grandchildren.
Messages for a partner
- Every Christmas with you is my favourite one so far.
- You are the best part of my year. Merry Christmas, my love.
- Our first Christmas together, and I already can't wait for the next one.
For a romantic gift, many people still choose red roses. Our guide to what rose colours mean can help if you would like a different shade.
Messages for family or friends you won't see this year
Flowers are a lovely way to be there when you can't. A card can say so plainly, without making anyone feel guilty.
- We wish we could be with you this Christmas. Sending all our love until we can.
- Far away, but thinking of you all. Save us a seat next year.
- A little something for your table, since we can't be at it this year. Merry Christmas.
Messages for friends
- Merry Christmas to a friend who makes every year better.
- So glad you are in my life. Wishing you a happy and restful holiday.
- Here's to more laughs and fewer deadlines next year. Merry Christmas!
Messages for your holiday host
If the flowers are for a dinner or a party, send them the day before and thank the host in advance. Our guide to choosing a Christmas centrepiece explains what suits a table.
- Thank you for having us. We can't wait to celebrate with you.
- For your table, with thanks for all the work you put into the day.
- Thanks for opening your home to all of us again this year.
Messages for neighbours, teachers and caregivers
A small bouquet or a plant with a sincere line is often the gift people remember. Our flowers and gifts under $60 are a good place to look.
- Thanks for being such a great neighbour. Merry Christmas from all of us at number 12.
- Thank you for everything you have done for Liam this year. He loves your class.
- Thank you for the care and kindness you show Mom every day. We are so grateful.
Messages for clients and coworkers
Keep these warm but simple, and sign with your name and your company so there is no doubt who sent the gift. If you do not know whether someone celebrates Christmas, "happy holidays" or "season's greetings" is a safe choice. For ideas on what to send, read our guide to holiday gifts for clients and staff.
- Thank you for your business this year. Wishing you and your team a happy holiday season.
- It has been a pleasure working with you. Season's greetings from all of us.
- Thank you for all your hard work this year. Enjoy a well-earned break.
Messages for someone having a hard Christmas
The holidays can be painful after a loss, an illness or a separation. Don't try to cheer the person up or ask them to be merry. Simply let them know you are thinking of them.
- Thinking of you this Christmas, and remembering David with love.
- I know this season is not easy. I am here whenever you need me.
- No need to reply. I just wanted you to know you are in my thoughts.
A quiet white arrangement often suits this kind of message better than bright red and green. Our white flowers are a good place to start.
What to leave out
- Prices or apologies about the gift. "It's just a little something" is fine once, but there is no need to explain it.
- Private news. Remember that the card may be read by others in the home or at the office.
- Jokes that need explaining. Save them for when you see the person.
Sending your card with flowers
When you order, add your card message at checkout, and we will write it by hand. If the recipient is at work, include the business name and suite, and check their holiday hours first. Gift baskets are made to order and need at least one day's notice, so plan gift baskets a little earlier than a flower order.
Every flower arrangement is hand-arranged in our Mississauga studio. We offer same-day delivery of fresh flowers across the GTA, and delivery is free on orders over $50.
