A town with a bicycle for a symbol
Weston takes its name from Weston, Hertfordshire, the English birthplace of mill owner James Farr, who named the settlement in 1815. A flood in 1850 moved the village to the east bank of the Humber, and the Grand Trunk Railway followed in 1856. It became a town in 1914, and the old-fashioned bicycle it used as a symbol recalls the CCM factory on Lawrence Avenue. Weston joined the City of York in 1967, and York became part of the new City of Toronto in 1998.
Today, Weston Road is still the heart of the neighbourhood, and the Weston Farmers' Market runs weekly from mid-May to the end of October.
